Part I Rules of the Game 1. How does Waverley s mom try to influence her children s lives? i - she plays chess with them. ii - she cooks american food for them. iii - She shares her Chinese values with them. iv - She teaches them about American culture.
Rules of the Game 2. Why does Waverly stop playing chess with her brothers? Waverly stops playing chess with her brothers because they keep losing the game and lose real interest playing it. Waverly stops playing chess with her brothers because she becomes the best chess player in the house. No one can beat her, she wins at every game.
Rules of the Game 3. Why does Waverly like playing chess so much? Give information from the story to support your answer. Playing chess gives Waverly privileges at home, Her mother shows her respect by telling her that she doesn't have to do the house chores. Waverly is good at chess, she wins all the time so she really likes playing it. After some time there is an article about her in the newspaper. She also becomes the national chess champion and gets awards.
Rules of the Game 4. Thinking Skill - Cause and Effect I close my eyes and pondered my next move. What does Waverly mean by this? Waverly understands that to be herself she must keep her individuality but she cannot do so if she isolates herself from her family. Waverly feels she has lost against her mother. Since she was rude, her mother is very angry at her. As a result, she goes to her room and has to think about her next move. Waverly understands that she became too "Americanized". Therefore she has lost her mother's support and will have to think of "her next move".
Part II The Wave 14. Why did the students think Ben was a good teacher? i - He gave them good grades. ii - He was very sociable. iii - He was interesting iv - He helped them with homework.
The Wave Module F -בחינת 15. Why does Robert begin to follow Mr. Ross? Robert follows Mr. Ross because he wants to be his bodyguard. He wants to protect him at school.
The Wave 16. At lunch, after the students have been doing the experiment for a short time, one of them says Its like there s no crowd anymore, you don't have to worry about how popular you are. Is this an accurate description of the relationship among the students? Give information from the novel to support your answer.
The Wave 16. No, you were only popular if you are a true member of the Wave, where all students are equal. If you didn't take any part in the Wave, you still had to fight for your social status at school. Those who refused to join were bullied at school, they were not equal to the Wave members. Yes, The students feel equal but only because they all took part in the Wave. If you were a member you didn't have to fight for your social status. Amy says that she doesn't need to compete with Laurie about boyfriends and grades.
The Wave 17. Why does Mr. Ross change the style of clothes he wears? Explain. Mr. Ross changes the clothes he wears because he gets carried away with the experiment. We know that because his wife says that he is a person who is easily gets carried away with things. Changing his clothes tells us that he actually starts acting as if he is a real leader. Mr. Ross changes the clothes he wears because he believes that he has to take part of being the leader. That s why he lets Ben to become his personal bodyguard. He has to act out his role in the experiment.
The Wave 18. Why do you think Ben decides to show the class another film at the end of the novel? Thinking Skill - Cause and Effect Ben wants to shock his students, he saw how the students reacted when they watched the movie that started the Wave,so he figured out that he would use the same method to end it. Ben wants to end the experiment with a movie in order to make his students understand the power of blindly following a leader. At first he showed them a movie about War World II which started The Wave, and now he wants to show them another World War II movie to end the experiment.
Part III As I Grew Older 19. If one dream should fall and break into thousands pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again. Make a connection between the above quote and the poem. Give information from the poem to support your answer.
As I Grew Older 19.Answer - The above quote says that when a dream breaks into thousands of pieces, you shouldn't lose hope. You need to take one piece and start again, no matter how hard it may be. In the poem the speaker has a dream, at some point he feels that his dream is being blocked by a wall. This is where the speaker lies in the shadow because he feels his dream is broken. The speaker doesn t give up, he turns to his hands for help and he breaks the wall. The poem and quote talk about hard situations in life. They both face difficulties and their dream is broken to pieces. However, both of them find enough power to move on and start all over again, they dont give up on their dreams.
The Road not Taken 21. In the space between yes and no, there s a lifetime. It s the difference between the path you walk and one you leave behind. It s the gap between who you thought you could be and who you really are. make a connection between the above quote and the poem. Give information from the poem to support your answer.
The Road not Taken 21.Answer - The quote says that when you choose a path, you leave one behind, that s the life between yes and no. The decision you finally make is big, it changes your life. The poem talks about a man that stands in an important crossroad in his life. He needs to make a big decision. It takes him all of time because its a meaningful decision that will change his life. After he has decided he realizes that his decision made all the difference. The name of the poem is The Road not Taken, which means that the speaker still thinks about the choice that he didn't take. The quote and the poem speak about how important is to think about the big decisions in our lives. They both say that the decisions we make shape the way we are and the path we choose to take.
